Weekly Journal
Having that print on my wall now makes my room look as slick and classy as my journal usually looks

I've actually been doing a lot of shooting this week and have got some good work I think, but I've been too busy with work for clients and other stuff to finish much of it in the darkroom, hopefully have some of it done and posted this coming week :)

The new layout for dA-ArtJam's css is really coming along well, when it's done I think it'll be the best css I've ever had a hand in making'. Still need to see about how the code comes out but on paper it's pretty epic, I saw the finished illustration that will anchor the header today and thought it was perfect.

I backed up gigabytes and gigabytes worth of photos over the last couple days, several tens of thousands of shots to DVD-R and external harddrive. Still backing them up making 4th and 5th copies, my early work was all destroyed in a hard-drive crash years ago so I'm paranoid these days. I was a little behind so it feels good to have them all safe now. My new fat 250gb PS3 harddrive will be bearing some of the backup load

I upgraded to Mac OS X.5 on here the other day so I've been busy getting all situated and back up to speed with my normal workflow. In general enjoying all the new awesomeness upgrading out of X.3, I was telling Bobby it's like breaking up with an awesome gf only to get a new awesome'er hotter gf :eyes:... I'm hating the Stacks atm but maybe I'll get used to them. And it's going to take Spotlight a week to index my main HD...

By the way upgrading to FF3 I missed using DeviantCopyPaste ayembee.deviantart.com/art/Dev… so much because it's not built for 3... But I used addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef… to force it to install and it's working fine now :phew: Thought I'd mention it because it's really useful, check it out.

I've been enjoying watching the swimming in the Olympics, some pretty exciting moments in the pool lately epic entertainment. But, it's all well and good to celebrate the personal struggles and accomplishments of athletes, but too often for people it becomes sort of a neurotic obsession with sport when it comes to the Olympics [and sports in general a lot of the time]. With tinges of pretty senseless nationalism, and people voyeuristically getting a taste of glory through the spectacle. It's really unhealthily imo, and sad.

When I turn off the games and switch to the news, I see yet another savage conflict catching fire in the world, once again with claims of genocidal actions on both sides. And I know there are even more people tonight who don't know where they are going to sleep or if they can keep their families safe from the most unspeakable sort of violence you can think of. This is in addition to the many thousands around the world already in this position from other conflicts... Watching the attention and money lavished on the games, it starts to seem pretty obscene. When the world pulls together, we do it to celebrate who can jump the furthest? Instead of coming together to give everyone basic securities and peace. And our heroes are who can bring home the most medals? Instead of the volunteers and other people that make it their mission to help other people, who really should be looked on as the heros.

Not trying to beat up on China or Russia specifically here, though ffs there seems to be a lot of blood on their hands atm, but more generally I was trying to beat up on 'us'. Wider society. For putting so much importance on what is unimportant, and ignoring what really is important, because it makes people feel better about doing nothing and not caring I guess... :sigh:
