Fiction Non-FictionI called us all fiction
characters, waiting for the
writer to put the final period
down, close the book, tuck
it away on the shelves,
the highest one where you need
a ladder and it's never to be found.

The world likes conflict,
so it makes sense, our
life so fictionalized and beautified,
I suppose, for the readers, watchers
to gorge themselves with;
we're so entertaining, this is the
best.

Your teeth chatter, the cold
demands our attention with
sharp wind blast assaulting our
exposed cheeks turning red.
Blood rushes to my face when
we hide in an alleyway, say
warmth feels good.
   You say something, burro
nightfall and the death of...she was all breast and sex craved,
everything he wanted; he imagined
his life complete for once.
drinking pints of vodka straight,
sucking on his neck down
curvy highway nights
like her form, and his persona
didn't matter much; he was just
a body to throw gestures
of love and affection towards,
the poor sap, so meaningless,
as her worthlessness seemed insignificant
briefly while the moment lasted.

it wasn't a planned event
as the car flew off, abandoning
the roadside path and
taking the plunge
off the cliff, into the seaside
dunes, two hundred feet below;

  lordie, oh me and my,
they were a mess before
they sp
Iris Kleurtwee and Me...She never really said
much, hazels spied from
left eye, rich blues the right,
staring at my features,
  ordinary as they were
             (still remain),
analyzing them as if
they would appear
on a surprise test late in
the week; felt superior
 every time, melted away my
 self-consciousness.

Sat oft cross legged,
hands stuffed in
folds of knee joints,
listening to the
absurd stories I had,
  some real, most not,
giggling and smiling
each night with fire
light casting our shadows

on treated cedar woodwork,
that cabin miles from the nearest
street pole cable wiring or
telephone booth, Chinese
Restaurant
with numbers and spreadsheets-no one understands why whales
  breach,
make up conclusions, the string of letters
  following
their name legitimizes statements as
  factual
while you lack the procession of obedient
  abbreviations;

no one understands reasons you conjure for
  why
you love him, doesn't seem right, simply
  unsubstantiated,
more conclusive findings are needed, dear
  child -
saying "cause I love him" is simply not good
  enough.
iNsoMniaAs the red
beats against eyelids
to push against
quiet pictures
projected
inside cranium,
Wakeful
dreams
make for
illustrious
colorful verbose
verse.
An Overactive Consideration...A gaze turned to a stare,
inquisitive, no doubt,
a stare, nonetheless.
  Printed portrait classic,
      crying clown.

I felt a cosmic joke
  was being told,
the punch line soaring
  far, too far overhead -
a telescope, please.

Unorthodox, straining
  sadness meted with
anxiety; sweat glands opening
   wide, ever so wider,
a slick schlepping fall of

 salty liquid -
why would a clown -
  joy, happiness, relief,
  childhood pleasures -
cry? Why, why?

My knees turned black
 while waiting for an answer,
hands clasped, eyes hovering -
eludes me, this eludes me,
 a conundrum of an ordinary kind.

Worked off and on over this for awhile, unusual for me to post vector but here we are. This is a simplified version that was the initial composition, which I liked more then the full version which feels like it's a bit 'too much' for me. Pop art is really not my style I need practice to get better at it.

The Medusa fable is told in a variety of ways, but the versions that interests me paint Medusa as a beauty ravished by Poseidon while worshipping in Athena's temple, and then cursed by that vengeful goddess for affront. Her cherished hair turned to snakes, and her striking eyes made to turn suiters or anyone else to stone, etc, essentially her beauty turned against herself and being victimized twice over. This is a more sympathetic characterization then those that cast her only as a hideous monster that needs vanquishing, and after all what is more dangerous scary then overpowering beauty? It's a more interesting version this way, mainly with how the myth relates to the raise of patriarchy and it's impact subjugating and discrediting the serpent symbolism and early goddess worship that preceded it.

The focus of this was obviously the eyes almost exclusively and the rest of the myth was largely left out, with a few supporting elements included. The poppies are emblematic of sleep and death, and imo also the overwhelming power of opiates, I thought it was apt to represent the stoning effect of the gaze without having to show statues [a song about heroin partly inspired the choice of this]. Without the snakes this is much vaguer as a Medusa reference unfortunately.

Intense and gorgeous! The eyes look right through you and I like the subtle texture/flower patterns in the lines :)

Oh how I adore this.

I LOVE the mark on her forehead. It loosely resembles flower petals but nothing will ever break that first impression of it looking like the mark of a kiss :heart:

Compelling, daring, and fabulous.
